テーパーゲージとは

テーパーゲージとは、「製品のテーパー部分の検査を行うゲージ」と「穴やすき間に挿入して、それらの大きさを測定するためのゲージ」の総称のことです。

前者のテーパーゲージは一般的に、テーパー形状部分の内外径や直径の長さの比（テーパー比）、またはテーパー角度（断面と母線の角度）の検査を目的としております。精度の評価は被測定物とゲージの面積がどれだけ触れているかを示す「当たり率」によって評価され、当然当たり率が高ければ高いほど部品の精度は高いと判断されます。

後者のテーパーゲージは穴径やすき間を測定することを目的としております。どのような測定を行うかによって使用するゲージは異なっており、「円筒テーパー」「幅テーパー」「厚テーパー」等が測定用テーパーゲージの代表例と言えます。

テーパーゲージの使用目的

作製した機械部品に応じて適切なテーパーゲージを使用して加工部分の測定・検査を行うことは、より精度の高い部品の作製に役立てたり、測定・検査にかかる時間を短縮できたり、することができます。

機械部品の加工において、図面の寸法や形通りに部品を加工し、作製することは当然加工者側に強く求められます。精度の高い部品を作製するためにはもちろん加工の技術も大きく影響しますが、完成した部品を検査する段階において、検査具の測定精度の高さも重要になってきます。測定する部品の形状や大きさに応じたテーパーゲージを作製し、部品の測定・検査に使用することは、より高い精度を追求した部品の作製の手助けになるというメリットがあります。　また、従来では手間のかかる測定方法で時間的にコストのかかっていた部品の測定・検査において、テーパーゲージを使用することでコストカットを実現することができます。

穴・隙間測定用テーパゲージ

穴や隙間の測定には、測定対象の形状に応じて加工されたテーパーゲージを挿入して測定します。

テーパー形状検査用テーパーゲージ

テーパー形状の部品を検査は、色つきのペーストを薄く塗ったテーパリングゲージをテーパ穴に入れ、ペーストがこすり取られた割合によって、当たりの判定を行います。

What is a Taper Gauge

Taper gauges ,generally, mean tools to inspect whether parts of finished machine are correct sizes, or to measure sizes of hole or gap by inserting gauges in those holes or gaps.

The former taper gauges are generally used to inspect an inner, an outer diameter, a ratio of diameter and a taper angle of taper part of components. The accuracy of each components is evaluated by “conformity factor”, which is the area ratio touched gauges with object to be measured. As the conformity factor is getting higher, the accuracy will be higher, obviously.

The purpose of latter taper gauges is to measure sizes of hole diameter and gap between components. According to objects to be measured, what gauges should be best for is different. Representative examples of taper gauges for measuring are cylinder taper, wide taper, thickness taper and so on.

The intended use of the taper gauge

Adopting suitable taper gauges according to each manufactured machine parts is quite useful for manufacturing higher accuracy components and shortening measure or inspection times.

In manufacturing machine parts, it is highly required for product manufacturing companies to process components precisely as ordered. It is necessary  for them to manufacture a high accuracy component. A highly reliable skill is not only necessary for them to manufacture high accuracy components, but  a high measurement accuracy is also significant in the final stage.

Manufacturing appropriate taper gauges corresponding to the shape, size of object to be measured to measure and inspect components has two good things.

First, it can pursue higher accuracy machine parts so that it can make factory improve competitiveness in the market.

Second, it can shorten a measuring or inspection time that conventionally has spent too long times so that the company will be able to reduce cost of production during manufacture process.

How to use taper gauges

For a hole diameter and gap

In order to measure a hole diameter or gaps, insert taper gauges to objects to be measured. (refer to the above image ③)

For an inspection finished parts

In order to inspect components with taper shape, insert colored taper gauges to taper hole (or cover colored gauges with taper components).  Then you should check how much color area is scraped to judge conformity factor. (refer to image ②and ③）
